What to Wear | Townsville Photographer

When it comes to professional photography, it is really important to select outfits that will enhance your portraits, rather than distract from what is most important, your family/brand new baby.

So here are some helpful tips to help you make the right decision.

KEEP IT SIMPLE!

Neutral, earthy tones are what I recommend to all families. It is also best to avoid busy patterns, logos and bright colours.

For the best results, try and stick to a specific theme and coordinate colours rather than matching the outfits. This will give your photos a nice and balanced feel.

I have found that medium/darker tones are more flattering and help draw your attention to the face, rather than to the brightest part of the final image.

Please iron dress shirts too!

CLIENT WARDROBE

Mumma’s, you will have access to my client wardrobe, which contains some beautiful dresses for you to wear during your session. Multiple sizes available to fit most.

For motherhood/maternity photography, I usually style your whole session for you. But, you’ve found something amazing that you love too, bring it!

LOCATION

Ensure that your choices complement the location (studio or outdoors) and make sure it’s something you are comfortable in.

Be careful with footwear though, as sometimes, there will be some walking/moving around during the session.

Thankfully, you won’t need to worry about shoes if your session is held in the studio or at the beach.

ACCESSORIES

For outdoor photography, feel free to have fun with hats and jackets.

Leave sunglasses, phones and watches at home/or in the car. Bulky accessories don’t photograph well.

OTHER TIPS

Wearing moisturiser on your face/body can help you to appear more refreshed.

MAKEUP

Having your makeup done by a professional makeup artist makes you feel good and leads to greater confidence!

They are trained in contouring the face, colour matching and accentuating your best features.

This perfect because the camera tends to expose flaws that cannot be seen by the naked eye.

I can repair a lot during my post production techniques though for a flawless complexion, it is best to have a professional do it for you.

HAIR

If your hair seems flat and you’re after that extra polished look, have a hairdresser style your locks too…

They use premium products to control any imperfection and are able to frame your face perfectly.

If you decide to do it yourself though, just ensure to control any frizz, add products & create some volume.

An up-style or full bodied-curls are usually a client’s go-to look.

NAILS

With your nails, please avoid bright colours. They look best when kept natural.

STILL A LITTLE UNSURE?

I am here to help! We can chat about your options and I will make a suggestion, if needed.

You will also receive a complimentary preparation guide upon booking, which will help to guide you through it (specific to the session you have booked).
