I love that all babies are different during their session 🙂 Griffin was quite active and had lots of awake time during his shoot so after we captured some adorable eye contact, I wrapped him up nice and secure and rocked him gently so that we could get some sleepy shots that were requested. His stunning mumma Abbey came in whilst pregnant with Griffin so that I could capture her bump before his arrival also so it was amazing to have her back in <3

If you are considering a maternity and newborn photography experience, please get in touch soon as 2018 bookings are extremely limited. Just fill out your details on my contact page (click here) and I will be in touch soon!

The Client Experience

How has your experience been with JC imagery and how did Jodi make you feel? Our experience with Jodi was lovely! Not only was she very accommodating and patient with our little one, but her professionalism and photography skills are superb!

Why did you choose JC imagery? Jodi did such an amazing job with my maternity photos that I couldn’t resist bringing my bubba in to see her once he arrived. Her props and little outfits are super cute too!

Highlights…

What was the highlight of your session? The highlight of the session was watching my son and his daddy have their photos taken together… the two people I love most in this world.. these photos I will treasure!

Our story

Is there a story surrounding your pregnancy? Was it a breeze or did you little one make you work for it? My pregnancy with Griffin went very smoothly up until the last few weeks… He was super comfy in my tummy and decided that he wanted to stay in there as long as possible, not coming earthside until after 42 weeks! Despite my eagerness to meet him and my desire to have my body back, he was sooo worth the wait!!

The details

Did you find out whether you were having a boy or a girl? Or do you love a surprise? We found out we were having a little boy when I was 11 weeks pregnant through the Harmony NeoNatal test which examines the baby’s chromosomes. Daddy wanted to wait and have it be a surprise but I couldn’t resist!

How did you go choosing your baby’s name? After months of not agreeing on any names Darren and I eventually came across “Griffin” in a baby name book.. We wanted a name that was both masculine and unique and decided it was meant to be. Griffin’s middle name “Beau” he shares with his big brother “Liam Beau”.

Preparation

What are your favourite baby stores? I decided while pregnant that I wanted to buy as many Australian made, organic and eco friendly baby products as I could find. My favourite stores were ‘Owl Baby‘ and ‘Rainbow Tree‘. In Adelaide there are also ‘Magic Circle‘, ‘David Jones‘ and of course ‘Baby Bunting‘.

Did you prepare the nursery in advance or wing it last minute? By 25 weeks Griffin’s nursery was pretty much complete which allowed me to focus on resting for the remainder of my pregnancy.

Tips

Do you have any tips for expecting mums? The only advice I can share for expecting mumma’s that I found beneficial was to see a chriopractor in the last few weeks of my pregnancy. Mine was a godsend, relieving my sciatica almost instantly.

Do you have any tips and tricks for parents adjusting to parenthood in those early days? Ensure you have precooked meals in the freezer for easy lunches and dinners after bubs arrives and don’t forget to sleep when the baby sleeps!

Marley | 8 days…

This little cherub had me melting sooo bad! I just had to share a couple of my personal favourites and her beautiful mumma’s experience. If you’ve been considering a newborn session, please get in contact soon to reserve your tentative due date. Bookings are limited so click here 🙂

The Client Experience

How has your experience been with JC imagery and how did Jodi make you feel?

Our whole experience was incredible from start to finish. It was lovely to know Marley was safe and in very capable hands with Jodi, but also that I was also able to be comfortable in her professional environment. I felt understood and relaxed during what was a challenging time, as most postpartum women will agree.

Highlights

What was the highlight of your session?

Watching my partner interact with Jodi and Marley to set up the shoots. It was my first time since she was born I really could sit and watch without worrying or fussing… The part where Marley also wee’d on Jodi made me laugh too!

Our Story

Is there a story surrounding your pregnancy? Was it a breeze or did your little one make you work for it?

Asides from some controlled hypertension, in hindsight it was pretty breezy after the all day sickness dropped off 2nd tri.. I carried her fairly well, didn’t swell or blow up, had attainable cravings of hot chips, honey in sourdough toast.. and organic royal gala apples, but I’d only eat them from one grower only.. many other apples went into the bin with one bite taken out.

How did you find out whether you were having a boy or a girl? Or was it a total surprise?

We found out at 20w scan.. We were so sure it was a boy though we got them to double check on the day and then triple check again at 28w…

Baby Name

How did you come up with your baby’s name? And did you have other names that you used while your new baby was still in the womb)?

We had thrown a few names around but at the scan when we found out it was a girl, I just looked at my fiance and said “Marley” and he immediately agreed. We called her The Punisher while she was in the womb.. not for sinister reasons though. We’d just finished watching it on Netflix and one of her scan images of her skull looked like his logo/emblem thing. So we went with that.

Preparation

Tell me your favourite stores that you are obsessed with shopping at (this may help other parents prepare for their new miracle).

You can’t go past ‘Kmart’ and ‘Best & Less’.. and ‘Aldi’ when it’s baby week.. then online for girls there is: ‘Little Eedie Boutique‘, ‘Bubs Warehouse‘, ‘CMC Gold‘, ‘Mae & Rae‘, ‘Lulu & Milly, ‘Arrabella Rose’, ‘Tutuirresistable’… Also, ‘Bonds‘ wonsersuits are the best too.

How far in advance did you prepare the nursery? Or did you wing it last minute?

We started at 20w, but it wasn’t 100% done till I went on my mat leave at 35w and had time to nest.

Tips & Tricks

Do you have any tips for expecting mums?

Enjoy your pregnancy. It sounds silly to some but it is a wonderful experience, I miss laying down at night and feeling her kick and roll around.

Do you have any tips and tricks for parents adjusting to parenthood in those early days?

It’s okay to cry, take plenty of photos and remember you can never spoil a newborn. Hold them, kiss them and take in the amazing smell that is baby breath!

Meet Evaliah… What an absolutely gorgeous baby, I couldn’t get enough of her beautiful strawberry hair and button nose. She was an absolute angel during her session so we were able to get such amazing portraits for her family to remember…

The Client Experience

How has your experience been with JC imagery and how did Jodi make you feel?
Our experience with JC imagery was more than we could’ve ever asked for! Going into my maternity shoot I was extremely nervous and wasn’t really sure what to expect, but by the end of it, I walked away with some amazing photos that I thought I would’ve never been able to achieve, let alone feel comfortable in doing so. Then when we returned with our little girl I was so comfortable with handing her over. Jodi is such a lovely and genuine person, it definitely shows that she is passionate about her job.

Highlights

What was the highlight of your maternity and newborn session?
The highlight of my maternity shoot was definitely when my partner was helping with the silk flick in a couple of my photos. He just couldn’t quite master it but in the end we got an amazing photo. I loved how Jodi included my partner in the session. As for the newborn session, the highlight was just watching Jodi work. It was incredible to watch how Jodi would calm Evaliah down, ready for each setup. We had full confidence throughout the whole shoot and we even managed to get a, extra prop while bub slept.

Why did you choose JC Imagery to capture this special time?
I stumbled across JC imagery in my search through Instagram for a newborn/maternity photographer in Adelaide. I instantly fell in love with her work! She is so flexible and offers high-quality photographs, which was exactly what we were after.

Our Story…

Is there a story surrounding your pregnancy? Was it a breeze or did your little one make you work for it? Little-miss definitely made me work for it!! Got stuck with the horrid Hyperemesis Gravidarum… 🙁

Did you find out whether you were having a boy or a girl? Or was it a total surprise?
We found out at our 18-week scan. We had planned to find out at a gender reveal that we were going to have but the suspense was too much! As soon as the sonographer asked if we wanted to know we both jumped at the opportunity.

Decisions

How did you come up with your baby’s name? And did you have other names that you used while your new baby was still in the womb)?
Before we found out that we were having a girl, we would refer to her as ‘jellybean’. Then from probably 26 weeks onwards, we fell in love with the name Evaliah. We just stumbled across it one day after tossing a few different variations around. I loved the name Evie, but my partner wasn’t set on it so we decided on Evaliah. Evie for a nickname.

Preparation

What are your favourite stores that you are obsessed with shopping at…
I’m sure that I’m not the only one but I’m totally obsessed with all things ‘Kmart!’ There’s an online store called ‘Little Eedie and they have some adorable clothing! Baby Bunting also have some incredible items and some amazing nursery furniture.

How far in advance did you prepare the nursery? Or did you wing it last minute?
We moved down from Cairns when I was 32 weeks pregnant and had ordered all our nursery furniture from an online store. The room was ready and set up only a few weeks before Evaliah arrived.

Tips

Do you have any tips for expecting mums?
The only tip that I can really give is, is to be completely open-minded. Don’t go into parenthood expecting to have everything done perfectly and to know what you’re doing. Have an open mind about the birth as well because literally, anything can happen. I was terrified of becoming a Mum with fear of failing and not being good enough but now I am absolutely loving it! Just take each day as it comes and every minute while your baby is little, it doesn’t last for long.

Helpful tricks

Do you have any tips and tricks for parents adjusting to parenthood in those early days?
Definitely try and get a bassinet with wheels on it! After leaving the hospital and coming home I actually got my dad to attach a set of wheels to my bassinet… Stock your freezer up with frozen meals! This has been a life saver for my partner and I. Those nights where you are over exhausted and just can’t be bothered cooking are the perfect nights to just pull out a frozen home-cooked meal!

I have put together a short slideshow to display some images captured during a newborn session. Each experience is calm and relaxed so you can sit back and enjoy the moment while we create lifelong memories and beautiful pieces of art…

Newborns grow and change so much over those first few weeks so I feel that it is incredibly important to take this moment and freeze it in time. Many new parents have told me that they can barely remember all the details because so much happens & so much doesn’t (like a good nights sleep)! I guarantee that you will cherish each image more than you could ever imagine.

Safety is key!

I know that there would be nothing more daunting to hand your new baby over to a complete stranger but please know, I am a trained professional. I understand the techniques necessary to pose safely, how to identify potential risks and how to avoid them.
During your experience, I promise to ensure that your little one is kept warm, comfortable and content in the studio at all times and will take extra care when positioning them (safety is key)! All products used also, are carefully washed/cleaned thoroughly to ensure a hygienic and germ-free environment. This is why I am also fully-vaccinated.

What to do next?

I love to meet all my newborn clients for a complimentary consultation prior to the birth of their new addition, that way we can get to know each other and take the stress out of organising your session. I believe that during this time, it is necessary to make the process nice and easy and we get to arrange all the beautiful little details in person.
If this is something you would love to arrange with me or you are after more information about our packages and collections, please click here and I will contact you as soon as possible.
Thank you so much and I look forward to hearing from you!

The Experience

How has your experience been with JC imagery and how did Jodi make you feel?

The moment Jodi opened up the door to her home studio I felt incredibly welcomed and comfortable. Jodi not only demonstrated high professionalism but was wonderfully friendly, calm and patient during our newborn session. She’s got an eye for detail and beautiful taste in all her props and accessories. The entire experience was perfect and faultless. I am so happy with the end result and will cherish the photos Jodi took forever. Thank you so much Jodi, I will be a returning customer and highly recommend JC Imagery to everyone.

What was the highlight of your session?

When Jodi had my son in the wood log pose. He looked so peaceful and picture perfect, I watched over him with such pride. I was completely blown away by how amazing Jodi made the setting look. It was my favourite photo of the day.

Our Story

Is there a story surrounding your pregnancy? Was it a breeze or did your little one make you work for it?

Aside from extremely bad reflux, it was a fairly easy-going pregnancy.

How did you find out whether you were having a boy or a girl? Or was it a total surprise?

It was supposed to be a surprise but on our 17-week ultrasound the sonographer slipped up!

How did you come up with your baby’s name? And did you have other names that you used while your new baby was still in the womb)?

Early on we discussed baby names together and both came across the name Flynn. We loved it and it stuck!

Advice

How far in advance did you prepare the nursery? Or did you wing it last minute?
We moved house the following week after Flynn’s birth. The nursery was completely last minute, but I was very prepared for buying everything he needed before he arrived.

Tips & Tricks

Sleep when the baby sleeps, housework can wait.
Ask for help and accept it.
Follow your heart, not advice. Mother’s instinct is best.
Don’t compare yourself to others.
Be kind to yourself.

I first met Jaimee for her maternity session and she had this amazing glow! Client experience

How has your experience been with JC imagery and how did Jodi make you feel?

Jodi is very professional, friendly and warm. She ensures you and your Bub are relaxed and comfortable throughout the shoot. She is excellent at communicating the processes and makes sure you don’t leave with questions unanswered.

What was the highlight of your session?

How relaxed and comfortable Jodi made me feel during the maternity shoot. I was hesitant to show my belly, but Jodi made me feel beautiful and empowered. Our highlight for the newborn shoot was how passionate and professional Jodi was about newborns. She took everything in her step and nothing was too much for her.

Why did you choose JC Imagery?

A friend recommended Jodi to. She had amazing shots of her son done with Jodi and loved the experience and end product. I would definitely recommend JC Imagery to anyone and everyone!!

Our story

Is there a story surrounding your pregnancy? Was it a breeze or did your little one make you work for it?

My pregnancy with Lucas was a breeze! No morning sickness, no headaches, no aches, no pains.

Did you find out whether you were having a boy or a girl? Or was it a total surprise?

We left it a surprise. Then once he was born, my partner Shane informed all present in the birth suite that Lucas was a boy. It was a special moment for him during the birth process, he was so chuffed!

When did you come up with your baby’s name? And did you have other names that you used while your new baby was still in the womb?

Shane and I have been set on “Lucas Jack” for approx 8 years. We think it is a strong, not heard of too often name, that suits all ages. When Lucas was in the womb, we called him “Nugget” because on the first scan we had done, he looked like a chicken nugget!

Preparation

Tell me your favourite stores that you are obsessed with shopping at (this may help other parents prepare for their new miracle).

We didn’t buy any designer clothes etc because they grow so quickly when they are newborns. We got our nursery furniture from ‘Mocka Australia‘ and would recommend them – quick delivery and quality products. And our pram is a ‘Redsbaby‘. I bought this without seeing one in the flesh and would do it again. Very well made, nice details and affordable.

The nursery – How far in advance did you prepare? Or did you just wing it last minute?

Shane didn’t want to “jinx” the pregnancy, so we didn’t buy anything until we were at least 7 months in. Then I had everything set up and ready to go by 8 months because I was so excited!

Tips and tricks

Do you have any tips for expecting mums?

Just go with the flow! Try to take everything as it comes, don’t sweat the small stuff and live in the moment. Numerous people throughout my pregnancy told me to be relaxed and calm. I feel this helped the pregnancy to be a breeze and the labour to go off without any issues. I just went with the flow. Also, sometimes I feel it is best not having a “set in stone” birth plan. They often never go to plan so don’t set yourself up for failure.

What advice do you have for parents adjusting to parenthood in those early days?

I would recommend that new parents remain calm and relaxed (I know it sounds hard) but Bub will pick up when you’re distressed, upset, stressed and overwhelmed and they will then mimic this. If you go with the flow, remain calm and do what you can when you can, you’ll be fine. And sleep whenever you can!! You never know when your Bub will want to cluster feed and you won’t be able to leave the lounge/feeding chair for hours.

The client experience

How has your experience been with JC imagery and how did Jodi make you feel?

Excellent! Yes – we have told all of our friends and anyone who has commented on our photos. Jodi made us feel amazing – at ease, comfortable and relaxed. We had a lot of laughs during the shoot – at everyone’s expense! Haha

Is there a story surrounding your pregnancy? Was it a breeze or did your little one make you work for it?

Our baby girl was the boss from day 1. My partner Jason knew that I was pregnant before the test was positive. I was terribly sick for the first 5 months – which didn’t completely disappear through the remainder of the pregnancy. I could eat something one day then not be able to stomach it the next. I also had really swollen feet and hands!

About

Did you find out whether you were having a boy or a girl? Or was it a total surprise?

Total surprise! We found out when she was lifted up onto me – Jason had a hunch that she was a girl all along… My mum thought I was having a boy but changed her mind later on in the pregnancy.

How did you come up with your baby’s name? And did you have other names that you used while your new baby was still in the womb)?

‘Bubs’ and ‘little one’ was used while Tilly was in the womb… We chose two names; one for a boy and one for a girl… When our baby girl arrived, I really liked the name Tilly and so did Jason so that is what we went with!

How far in advance did you prepare the nursery? Or did you wing it last minute?

We just did bits and bobs throughout the pregnancy. The cot arrived after the birth of Tilly so we put that together on the first night we arrived home so we are still working on the nursery.

Advice

Tell me your favourite stores that you are obsessed with shopping at (this may help other parents prepare for their new miracle).

I barely did any shopping at all! Everything was gifted, both new and second-hand (I personally love how soft the second-hand clothes are). I bought all the necessary items such as our cot, drawers, breast pump, bottles etc at Baby Bunting.

Do you have any tips for expecting mums?

Relax! Trust your partner and midwives to look after you. Make sure you rest, sleep and slow down especially during those last few weeks before baby arrives. Also, enjoy your bump! Your plans most likely won’t go to plan so just roll with it. Freezer meals are great to prepare in advance!

Do you have any tips and tricks for parents adjusting to parenthood in those early days?

Take photos! They won’t be clear memories, only flashes. Watch your bub and learn their cues. Listen to everyone’s advice and take back what works for you. Ignore the messy house; sit with your baby, take it all in and be kind to yourself! Your partner and baby are learning too so be kind and be a team! When your baby is upset, remember the 4xB’s; 1. Booby/bottle – are they hungry? 2. Bum – do they have a dirty nappy? 3. Body – Give them lots of cuddles and skin-skin contact. 4. Bed – are they tired?

Client Experience

How has your experience been with JC imagery and how did Jodi make you feel?

Our experience with JC imagery was brilliant, my little girl was not playing ball on the first session so Jodi offered for a second session the following day to try and capture the perfect photo with no added cost. Jodi made Myself, Partner and Baby Girl feel at home and welcome.

What was the highlight of your session?

The highlight of the session would be feeling relaxed and also confident in what Jodi was capturing and knowing that she was on the same creative page as I was with setting scenes for my baby girl.

Why did you choose JC Imagery?

When looking through JC Imagery’s gallery I could connect with her images; her colour tones, the particular style of each shoot was unique and I could relate to her photo’s.

Our Story

Is there a story surrounding your pregnancy? Was it a breeze or did your little one make you work for it?

My pregnancy story is pretty standard with no complications or crazy cravings. I could only eat crackers with vegemite and cheese for the first few months and the thought of steamed Veg made me instantly sick… Other than that it was a pretty smooth 40 weeks!

How did you find out whether you were having a boy or a girl? Or was it a total surprise?

During our 20-week scan was when we found out that we were having a girl 🙂

How did you come up with your baby’s name? And did you have other names that you used while your new baby was still in the womb)?

We had a list of names for most of the pregnancy, however, the list was not getting any shorter. It wasn’t until early morning hours after our baby girl was born that we decided on the name Georgia Elieen. Elieen was my late Nan’s name so in honour of this amazing woman I wanted my first baby to have her name as her middle name.

Tell me your favourite stores that you are obsessed with shopping at (this may help other parents prepare for their new miracle).

This would have to be Bonds, you cant go wrong with this store and BONUS – they have after pay!

How far in advance did you prepare the nursery? Or did you wing it last minute?

We were still not living in a house until a week before I gave birth, so the nursery was put together while heavily pregnant and it was all hands on deck!

Tips

Do you have any tips for expecting mums?

Honestly, listen to your own instincts and when people (and they will!) give you advice just take what you need from it, but try to feel confident that you will know what to do and what not do when your baby is born.  You’ve got this!

Do you have any tips and tricks for parents adjusting to parenthood in those early days?

Have no expectations, no one baby is the same and no day is the same as other, what might have worked today or yesterday may not work tomorrow. When help is offered whether it be a meal cooked for you, a load of washing done or an offer to hold your baby while you have a shower, coffee or eat- just say YES!!
